Hi Folks! Our Summer 2014 Workshops and Lectures have been posted on our webiste! Registration is open and you may want to sign up early as our classes have started to sell out fast!
One of the most exciting things happening at the studio this summer is our workshop with Yoshiko Wada! It was announced this past winter and sold out so quickly! (not surprising) But there is still space in her lecture Creative Impulses: Japanese Fashion & Textiles happening Wednesday, June 25th at 6:30 pm. You can purchase tickets here.
Our Block Printing workshop with Munira Amin was a huge hit this past season and we are offering it again this summer! Plus we will be offering two open studio sessions for Block Printing. If you have some prior experience in Block Printing then sign up and use our studio during these times and get access to some amazing hand carved blocks and printing inks!
Also an exciting edition is our Embroidery in the City workshop with artist Kate Jackon. This is a new workshop for the summer and participants will learn to embroider outside in our lush and super colourful rooftop garden overlooking the heart of the city!
And not to be missed is our Silkscreen Printing Summer Intensive with Sharon Epstein. Only offered once a year this workshop is a treasure trove of printing techniques and experimentation with materials.
Take a look at our flyer to see what else we have to offer and register here soon!
We couldn’t be more pleased to have Sandra Brownlee teaching a 5 day intensive workshop in our studio May 5-9, 2014 – Tactile Notebooks and the Written Word.
Just this past month it was announced that Sandra is the 2014 recipient of a Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts (Saidye Bronfman Award). We are so excited for Sandra and her accomplishment receiving this prestigious award.
Sandra’s workshops are known to rejuvenate art practices and inspire and excite creativity. People who have taken workshops with her in the past, almost glow when talking about the impact it had on their own art practices and ways of working.
An exhibition of Sandra Brownlee’s stellar work will be opening at David Kaye Gallery in Toronto just days before her workshop in our studio. The exhibition titled, The Word Made Physical: drawing, writing, weaving, stitching runs from May 1 – 25, 2014. Meet the artist: Saturday, May 3, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Our last 2 workshops with Hiawatha Osawamick were hugely successful. In the Traditional Leather Hide workshop participants learned how to make custom fit moccasins or mittens from leather hide and then embellish them with fur trims, beads, and more.
Hiawatha is a wealth of information and a great teacher. For each workshop, she brings her experience with her own company Native Bebe, a Native American company that specializes in promoting Aboriginal clothing and provides parents and families with Aboriginal clothing and learning tools to help ensure their sacred heritage is preserved and their culture stays vibrant.
Hiawatha also heads up her own catering business of traditional Aboriginal cuisine – Ozaawmik’s Catering. Participants in the Traditional Leather Hide workshop were also treated with a fully catered lunch prepared by Hiawatha.
Hiawatha is a real creative and entrepreneurial force and we are so lucky to have her teaching in our studio. We hope to have her back in the fall teaching a new and exciting workshop. If you would like to receive information about this please send an email to email@example.com
