Mary Pal

Mary is a Canadian fibre artist whose current work exemplifies her fascination with fibre manipulation and the tactile possibilities of stitch. Her work defies easy classification, encompassing art quilt, mixed media, sculpting, stitch and paint on richly textured fibre backgrounds. She is best known for her cheesecloth portraits which have been exhibited throughout the world, published in many books, and featured in magazines and on a popular quilting arts television program and DVD. Her artwork has received numerous awards at international exhibitions and is in many private and museum collections. Mary enjoys sharing her passion for textile art and teaches classes internationally. A past member of the Board of Directors for Studio Art Quilt Associates, she is an active participant in shaping the growing fibre art movement.
