In partnership with the Royal Ontario Museum and IARTS fellow Rajarshi Sengupta, we are offering a workshop with master block-printer Gangadhar Kondra and textile and natural dye specialist Jagada Rajappa. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside and learn from master artisans from India who have received numerous awards and have been successfully reviving weaving and natural dyeing and printing in India for many years. Gangadhar Kondra will demonstrate the complex art of carving wooden printing blocks. Jagada Rajappa will teach natural dye techniques with a focus on working with natural indigo and marigold. Students will also learn about the relevance of traditional textile techniques within contemporary Indian culture.


Traditional Textile Techniques in the Contemporary World: An International Roundtable

Alongside master block-carver Gangadhar Kondra and weaving and natural dyeing and printing specialist Jagada Rajappa, internationally and locally renowned Canadian textile specialists will discuss the important of traditional textile techniques and their relevance for cultural empowerment, social justice, sustainable fair-trade and environmental protection.
