Waxing Poetic with
Drawing and Dress

with Sarah Casey

Friday May 10
10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Tuition: $120 + HST
Maximum 10 participants

Led by UK based artist and senior lecturer in drawing, Sarah Casey, this workshop introduces an innovative method of drawing using wax to transform paper into a textile-like surface for delicate and ghostly images. We will work from a collection of South Asian textiles to develop our own delicate wax designs. Beginning with pencil drawing exercises to train the eye to look and record specific details of these intricate and beautiful textiles, we will then test out a variety of mark making methods. These exercises will enable each participant to produce a 'map' of their chosen textile as the basis for the development of a wax drawing. Participants will learn how to prepare paper with wax to create a fine semi transparent sheet. We will experiment with different ways of marking the wax using a range of tools before finally using these marking methods to translate our maps into wax, making a unique wax
drawing. No prior knowledge of drawing is required and
it is suitable for all levels of artistic ability!

Participants should bring a sketchbook and a pencil of their
choice. All other materials will be provided.
