Drawing Habits: Learning to Look Attentively at Dress

with Sarah Casey + Ingrid Mida

Friday July 20
9:30 am - 4:30 pm

Tuition: $130.00 + HST
Maximum 10 participants

This one-day workshop introduces participants to methods of examining and interpreting garments through drawing. Led by Dress Detective author/curator Ingrid Mida and UK-based artist Sarah Casey, a range of guided drawing exercises will encourage slow looking and help refine skills of observation. Participants will have the opportunity to draw from select artifacts from the Ryerson University Fashion Research Collection or apply their skills of observation to examining their own textile treasures. The second part of the workshop focuses on interpretation. We look at how drawing can help us understand and communicate the narratives embedded in garments. Participants will be introduced to a range of materials and techniques and encouraged to test different combinations of marks, materials, and methods to develop works that interpret and communicate the qualities of their chosen
garment. Students will receive a supply list upon registration.
