Storytelling Through Screen Printing

with Olivia Mae Sinclair

Saturdays: November 5, 12, 19
10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Tuition: $185 + HST + $30.00 Materials Fee (collected in class)
Maximum 6 participants

Participants will use previously generated samples and newly made prints in this three-week workshop to create a collection or textile book. Emphasis will be on reflecting and adding to fabrics or materials. In addition, students can generate and print new samples during the workshop through screen printing. Students will go home with a completed artist book of their own where the concept of "book" is open to interpretation through sculpture and form.

Please feel encouraged to bring many samples, fabrics or materials to the workshop. As long as it can potentially be sewn or printed on, it will be an asset. It is also helpful to have some experience with sewing or stitching.

Week 1: Slide presentation of Olivia's work, discuss methodology and process. We will also look at other book and textile artists for inspiration and a starting point for self-directed projects. We will also coat screens to shoot for the following week. Next, Olivia will briefly explain how to use photoshop to screen print images. Finally, we will spend time creating screen positives to shoot in week 2.

Week 2: Students will shoot screens and begin to strike off prints on paper and fabric. As prints are drying, we will discuss the use of both colour and text through the books. At this point, students may either continue printing or begin to assemble their collections.

Week 3: In the last class, students will spend the remainder of the time assembling their books. In the last hour, we will share our works and findings through a "soft critique"
