This workshop teaches basic skills in making spun yarn from raw wool roving and fleece. Participants will be provided the tools and materials for spinning. They will learn how to prepare fibres using hand-carders and spin yarn using a drop-spindle. At the end of the workshop, students will have made their own spun yarn that can be used for a variety of textile applications.

Timothy Manalo is a sculpture, textile, and installation artist born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts from OCAD University, majoring in Sculpture and Installation and completed a Master’s in Fine Arts in Studio Art from the SMFA at Tufts University in Boston. Manalo was a recipient of the 2023/2024 Leisa Rich Fibre Arts Residency Award at the Contemporary Textile Studio and Co-op.
