Learn the traditional tailoring method of sewing a keyhole-style buttonhole by hand. From calculating the buttonhole length and placement, to preparing your own thread twist, through executing the specialized stitch, this workshop will allow you to create sturdy, durable and sleek buttonholes. This method can be applied to casual canvas and denim garments as well as wool coating and suiting. We will explore both non-traditional and traditional materials. Every buttonhole you sew by hand will be a unique treasure on your garment.
This technique is a skill to develop over time. It takes patience and practice and is a wonderful opportunity to slow down and add special detail to your garment. Pre-requisite : Patience - this is fiddly handwork! It is helpful to have prior experience with hand sewing. If needed, participants are encouraged to bring visibility aids such as a stationary magnifying glass.
